icelandic elopement

Exactly one year ago today, in a land far away, steeped in beauty and rugged majesty, my gorgeous daughter married the love of her life, a handsome young man that we are blessed to have in our family. Wildflowers were gathered for the bouquet, and in a field of even more wildflowers, vows were exchanged. Letters were read, laughs were giggled, joy exploded and love ruled. Levi captured sweet moments and managed to convey the scale of the incredible Icelandic landscape, whilst the adorable newly weds walked through mossy fields and rocky canyons and right into their beautiful new future together.

Ain’t love grand…

May you dream big and find true happiness x

ps. You can see some more stunning photographs at Hello May and here on Levi’s website.

My favourite wintertime beach where you can dig a hole in the sand and sit in a natural hot thermal pool at low tide, watch the steam rise from the sand and feel like you’re on another planet… The healing hot waters rejuvenate even the weariest of bones … Low tide in the morning gets busy, but the low tide in the moonlight, well that was something very special indeed. We couldn’t really see the waves rolling into shore but we could hear them… there’s something quite surreal sitting in hot water, on the beach, at night, with just the sound of the ocean, the murmurs from a few other mad bods, and odd flicker of their flashlight as they search for the perfect hot pool spot and their own dose of twilight healing. If you ever visit New Zealand, be sure to make the trek to the Coromandel Peninsula and find the Hot Water Beach, I’m pretty sure you’ll be glad you did.

We left Napier after a final stop at our new favourite fish & chip shop, with two little crayfish tails on board for our midday pit stop planned at Lake Taupo. The scenery changed quickly from coastal to mountainous and the windy road opened to gorgeous vistas of untouched rugged New Zealand beauty often. Hungry and keen for our crayfish lunch at Taupo, we decided a little detour to follow a waterfall lookout was worth investigating, and it did not disappoint, not only was it huge, hard to gather the scale in this photo I know, it was so beautiful! It was here I saw my first New Zealand Bumblebee #bestname! We don’t have Bumblebees in Victoria so I have a little fascination with them. I have seen them before in Tasmania, but this guy had a pilot – he was huge, and so fluffy! We watched him buzz busily about the native flowers for a while, and enjoyed the waterfall for a bit before the call of the crayfish became too loud to bear. Back in the car on the roadtrip to Taupo and before long we were sitting by New Zealand’s largest lake, tucking into fresh crayfish and pondering waterfalls, bumblebees and how much stunning beauty Aotearoa offers.

Today’s Monday is coming at you from the beautiful blues of Venice Beach… We walked the famous boardwalk one hot sunny day and I wrote a little postcard about it here if you’re looking for a 2 minute read!
